Through both our activity groups and the café, Connect Community Centre is a wonderful place to develop yourself as a volunteer, whilst giving back to the community. People come to us so that they can have experience of the catering industry, to gain experience before returning to work, young people and women from women’s aid refuge come to make better use of their time. We are linked through the Job Centre, Interlink, Remploy, Working Links, Elite Training, and WCVA. In addition to general skills in catering, our staff are able to develop experience in:
cake baking,
listening skills with customers,
training customers,
deaf awareness,
awareness of needs of elderly people,
awareness of children and babies.
One of our volunteers says, “Sure, I would love to be in a full-time job right now. But I am learning so much as a volunteer! I know the skills I am developing will be very valuable in the workplace.”
Join us. You would be greatly welcomed. What’s more … we can provide you with a reference that you can take to future employers. For more information, please email Tina Rankin, pictured here at a cafe fund raising day for Teenage Cancer relief.
